Call for performers

We're looking for performers for a week’s research and development working on Snap-Elastic’s show Horses, an outdoor participatory dance inspired by the medieval story of Michael Kohlhaas.

Following an initial period of development as part of Magnetic North’s Rough Mix residency last autumn, this will be our second r&d of this work. As part of this r&d we will create and perform a workshop/participatory performance as part of the Dancebase workshop programme at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

The r&d will be led by Snap-Elastic Co-Artistic director Eszter Marsalko. Eszter and the performers will collaboratively develop material to deliver for the participants of the workshop.

We are holding a workshop audition on the 24th June from 11.00 - 15.00. We’re looking for performers with an interest in experimental performance and a dance background. We are also interested to hear from performers who don’t consider themselves dancers but have strong movement skills and are comfortable with verbal improvisation and delivering lines. Experience working within participatory settings is a plus but not a requirement. Deadline to apply is 12th June.

Snap-Elastic is committed to creating a diverse, inclusive, and accessible environment for all. We encourage applications from individuals from all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to apply, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, neurodiversity, or socioeconomic status. If you require any access provisions during the audition process, please email Snap-Elastic producer Isy Sharman at isy@snap-elastic.com, and she will be happy to have a conversation about how to meet your needs.

Fee:

£700 per week, plus travel expenses if travelling more than 25 miles to the R&D and workshop.

Availability:

We require full availability for all rehearsal and performance dates.

R&D: 18th - 23rd August 2025
